Petit Îlet lies in Génipa Bay near the mouth of the Rivière Salée and is administratively attached to Rivière-Salée. This small islet is about 100 metres long and 80 metres wide and belongs to the French state.
It has a pontoon, a carbet shelter and picnic tables. Archaeological remains also point to a past Amerindian presence, notably cupules carved directly into the volcanic rock. The islet is uninhabited, apart from the semi-wild roosters and hens that surprise many visitors.
